Our Testing Experience

First Impressions

When I first received the Optimus Wired GPS Tracker, I was curious about how easy the installation would be. Since it requires a direct connection to the car’s battery with just two wires (positive and negative), I was a bit nervous. But honestly, the instructions were clear and straightforward. I managed to hardwire it myself in under 20 minutes without any special tools. It felt reassuring to know the tracker was securely connected and wouldn’t easily disconnect while driving.

Daily Use

Using the tracker every day was surprisingly simple. I checked the real-time updates frequently, and the location was always spot on, updating every 30 seconds as promised. Whether I was driving around town or parking at different spots, I could see exactly where the car was in the app. It gave me peace of mind, especially when lending my car to friends or family. The subscription plan at $12.95 a month felt very reasonable, and I liked that I could cancel anytime without worrying about contracts or hidden fees.

Key Features in Action

The real-time tracking stood out the most. I noticed the tracker responded quickly to sharp turns and changes in direction, which made the tracking feel very accurate. The hardwired installation meant I didn’t have to worry about charging the device, unlike some battery-powered trackers. Also, the transparency of the subscription plan made it easy to stick with the service without any surprises on my bill. Overall, these features worked together to give me confidence that I could monitor my vehicle reliably.

Long-Term Performance

After using the tracker for a few months, I can say it held up well. The device stayed firmly connected to the battery, and the GPS updates remained consistent. I didn’t experience any downtime or glitches in the app. The low monthly cost combined with the dependable tracking made it a valuable tool for keeping an eye on my car and truck. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a no-fuss, affordable GPS tracking solution.

8 reviews for Optimus Wired GPS Tracker Review: Easy Install & Low Cost Plans

  1. Morse Wheeler

    Works extremely well. Easy install
This Optimus unit is much more precise than I expected in a consumer GPS. I moved the car over 3 feet on the driveway, and it registered that small move and drew a new map. Impressive. It updates at 30 second intervals, which is adequate for my use, which is to track the car if it is stolen (just had another car stolen from me in Arizona — and recovered by Colorado police – YAY! ). It is also very sensitive to movement such as shutting the trunk or closing a door. For some, it might be too sensitive, but if so, the apps do allow you to turn the “movement alert” on and off quickly. Obviously anyone trying to monkey with the car is going to set it off — even if they jack it up for stealing wheels or to tow, it is going to alert. The phone app and the web browser app are not all that impressive, but they do respond quickly to the units communications, usually within 5-7 seconds of the “triggering event” in my testing of it. It also uses Google maps, so that is a good thing. Overall, I’d say the apps are mediocre, but still no complaints, as they DO get the job done in a basic way. Installation is as simple as splicing into a 12v wire (“hot” at all times) and a ground wire. Easy as pie (the unit comes with its own in-line fuse holder and 5A fuse). It draws only a few mA, and leaving the car parked for 5 days without being started had no effect at all on the battery’s starting power delivery. I can’t speak to longevity or durability, but the GPS unit seems to be well made and a solid piece. As long as it holds up over time, this seems to be a really good unit and a nice bang-for-the-buck value.

    Fantastic tracker!!!
Awesome tracker! Works great, even with battery disconnected! I’m able to track all of my vehicles and see exactly where they went on any given day! Just take the time and install it in the vehicle somewhere a car thief would never think to look for it! Definitely worth the price of the tracker and the monthly use fee! I highly recommend Optimus trackers!

    REAL PERSONS REVIEW (not paid)
I’m actually a real person with limited knowledge of GPSs. This is a really good one. I bought one for my. At since I let a friend borrow it. I’ve had it hooked up to a 12V 15 minute battery for the last 4 days with no charge. It’s was strong and still no drain on the battery. Wanted to make sure it worked well before I placed it on the car and drained that battery. It is now on the car and monitoring as it should. It even tells you the battery voltage on the app, so you can make sure to either start the vehicle and charge it or disconnect the gps. Installation is easy!Subscription is required, but it’s only $12 a month (which I got the first month to make sure it works), or $132 for a year (comes out to $11 a month). You can easily access to change or cancel at any time!Love the push notifications. You can also have text and email notifications.I just purchase a second one for my SUV that doesn’t get driven as much, but it’ll be nice to know where it is at all times!

Reliable 24/7 tracking without the battery hassle
I wanted to try a new product for my new truck due to the increases in vehicle thefts in the area. As a Turo host I tend to go with the bounce unit because hardwiring some many vehicles is a task. But with my recent purchase of a new pickup truck i wanted to try something hardwired so I can have peace of mind.I wanted a GPS tracker that I could set up once and not have to think about charging, and this Optimus wired version fits the bill. Since it connects directly to the car battery, it provides continuous tracking with no downtime. Installation took a little effort — I had to tuck the wiring carefully so it stayed hidden — but once installed, it’s been running flawlessly. The tracking accuracy is excellent. The app shows location updates, trip history, and route details with precision. Unlike plug-in trackers, this one doesn’t risk being unplugged by accident or running out of power. That peace of mind alone makes it worth it for long-term use.Pros: continuous tracking, no recharging, accurate routes, reliable app. Cons: requires installation, so not as plug-and-play as OBD trackers. If you want a tracker you can install once and depend on, this is a solid option. Great for fleet vehicles, long-term monitoring, or just having the assurance that your car’s location is always available.

    i think it’s great
I originally purchased the Optimus 2.0 GPS Tracker for use on my semi-trailer truck. Although there was more drifting than I would have liked, overall, it performed quite well. Since I found a more suitable installation spot that also allows for continuous power supply, it has become more convenient for me as I no longer need to take it down periodically for charging. Therefore, I purchased the GB 100 and asked the online customer service to help with the hardware exchange and installation on my semi-trailer truck. The result has been very satisfying. It updates the location quickly and also sends back the battery voltage, allowing me to know the condition of the battery. After parking for a while, the update speed decreases, but as soon as the vehicle starts moving, it updates the location quickly again. I believe this must be due to a vibration detection feature in the hardware. In other reviews, I have seen concerns about the precision of the location and severe drifting issues. I think it’s important to have a basic understanding when installing a GPS device. The signal strength from satellites is very weak, so the top of the locator (the side with the label) should ideally face the sky, without any metal objects blocking it. If it’s obstructed by glass or plastic, there should be no problem. You can install it inside the dashboard (try not to install it under a metal bracket) or inside the bumper, as long as you adhere to the principle of the locator’s front facing the sky, unobscured by metal objects. If installed under the vehicle with the front facing down, the probability of your locator receiving diffracted satellite signals increases, which will affect the positioning accuracy. Believe me, this physical limitation applies to products from any brand.
