It is great for adults who need a lightweight and easy-to-carry travel pillow. The soft and ergonomic design makes it ideal for anyone who wants to avoid neck pain while traveling.

However, this pillow might not be the best choice for children or people who prefer very firm support. Our Testing Experience

First Impressions

When I first received the trtl Pillow, I was curious about how different it would be from the usual neck pillows I’ve tried. It felt very lightweight right away—much lighter than the bulky ones I’m used to carrying. The soft fleece fabric was cozy to touch, and the design looked unusual but interesting. I decided to take it on a short flight to see how well it would support my neck.

Daily Use

During the flight, I quickly noticed how the trtl Pillow kept my head upright without feeling tight or uncomfortable. Unlike other pillows that let my head flop to the side, this one held my neck in a natural position, which made it easier to relax and even nap a bit. I also used it on a long car ride, and it worked just as well. The lightweight design made it easy to carry around, and I loved being able to attach it to my backpack when not in use.

Key Features in Action

The patented internal support system really stood out to me. It felt like a gentle brace that prevented my head from tilting too far, which stopped the usual neck aches I get from sleeping in a wrong position. The fleece fabric was soft against my skin, and the fact that it’s machine washable gave me peace of mind, especially after using it in different places. I also appreciated how compact it was—it didn’t add any bulk to my travel gear.

Long-Term Performance

After several trips by plane, car, and train, the trtl Pillow still feels just as supportive and comfy as the first day. The fabric hasn’t worn out, and the pillow keeps its shape perfectly. It’s become a must-have for me whenever I travel because it really helps reduce neck pain and makes resting on the go much easier. Overall, it’s a great investment for anyone who wants a simple, effective neck pillow without the usual bulk.

10 reviews for Trtl Pillow Review: Soft, Ergonomic Neck Support for Travel

  1. Christine C.

Finally I can get decent sleep on a plane!
For years I have searched for a plane pillow that would allow me to comfortably get some shut eye on my flights. I am notorious for staying up all night the night before a flight prepping (instead of doing things ahead of time like a responsible adult), and this often leaves me sleepy by take off. I love nothing more than snoozing the entire flight and this neck support is the first “pillow” type product that has allowed me to truly sleep upright without that dreaded mid-sleep drift into your seat neighbor or too far forward. The brace feature is flexible yet supportive so you can adjust it to get the perfect angle to allow for comfortable napping and the compact design makes it way less cumbersome to tote in your personal item/carryon. Overall this was a win purchase.

  2. Mom of Two

    Love it
I’ve used all kinds of travel pillows and this is my favorite for packing and using. It’s minimal, soft and comfortable, and works. I can even raise the fabric over my mouth to eliminate or minimize snoring. It’s only stiff on one side so if you shift the direction you want to lean your head, you must shift the pillow as well. That’s of zero significance to me as I typically lean to one specific side. It comes with a storage bag and has a slim profile for packing. The velcro closure on the bag is a bit annoying as it’s loud to open and the velcro can snag your clothes if you’re not careful. I’d much prefer a zipper closure, but am happy it comes with a bag. I recommend visiting the trtl website and looking at their prices before ordering. I found them much cheaper (but slower to deliver when shipped from them).

  3. Amy

So comfy! Best travel support pillow ever!
Love this! Truly works to hold up my head while sleeping. Very cozy. I arrived well rested after2 6am flights.Wish the Velcro wasn’t so loud on the carry bag.

    Stopped Using the Trtl – I’m 5’9″, 150lbs – Used 10+ trips
I travel for work 10-12 weeks a year, about a quarter of which is international. Five-star reviews are rare for me. I reserve that rating for near perfect items. 4 stars IMO, is damn good.I have used the Trtl on at least 10 trips / 20+ flights.Travel – 4 stars (Very Good)The Trtl fits extremely well in any travel bag I’d imagine. I use a Timbuk2 Authority as my primary carry-on and the Trtl tucks in very nicely without taking up too much space. This makes it easy to stow your bag under the seat on planes, pillow included.Support – 3 Stars (Good)Support is where I started to have issues with the Trtl. This could be a result of my size and personal comfort preferences as well, so be advised. I am 5’9″, 150lbs, and comfortably wear a 14.5 inch neck in dress shirts. I found that I had to wrap the Trtl fairly tight around my neck in order for the support to be effective. If I tried to loosen the wrap for more comfort, the brace would slide down my shoulder – which led me to have to try and “shrug” my shoulders to keep the brace pressed to my face. In this situation, the Trtl is neither supportive or comfortable. This may not be an issue for someone with broader shoulders or a thicker / more muscular build. For me, finding the sweet spot between feeling like I was in “traction” and “resting” on a pillow was difficult.Comfort – 2 Stars (Disappointing)FIRST ISSUEThe struggles with support contribute to my rating for comfort. In achieving the “good” support, the Trtl became uncomfortable for me. Imagine pulling a turtle neck up high to the bottom of your ears and covering your chin. If you have no problem with that for however many hours you want to rest on the pillow – this shouldn’t bother you. For me, this quickly led to me feeling hot / stuffy / and restricted. The material breathes well enough, but airplanes are stuffy and poorly vented in my experiences, which made using the Trtl feel like sleeping in bed with the covers pulled up over your face.SECOND ISSUEUsing the Trtl while sitting tightly packed in economy wasn’t fun. I’m a small guy, and the act of having to extend and wrap the Trtl around my neck, velcro it properly, and adjust it made me brush up against my fellow passengers. I found myself trying to couch over in my seat to put this on if I had people sitting next to me on a plane. No one next to you, no problem. Flying business or first class, no problem – though the pillows there are way better than the Trtl. Don’t forget your own pillow case.THIRD ISSUEI like to wear wireless earbuds (Jabra Elite 65t). The Trtl interferes with the seating of the wireless earbud in my ear, either pressing it or tugging it out. This can happen with traditional travel pillows as well, but with those designs, you can push the pillow in slightly different positions to avoid this. I didn’t have the same issue with over the ear headphones, but using them is not my preference. If you use Apple earbuds, this could be an issue.Overall – a good product, well built, and easy to travel with. Ultimately wasn’t a good fit for me and my specific use case, but your mileage may vary. I hope this helps!

A Struggle Between Comfort and Circulation
I wanted to love the Trtl Travel Pillow. really, I did. The promise of a scientifically engineered, ultra-supportive neck brace (sorry, “pillow”) that would finally allow me to sleep on a plane without waking up feeling like I lost a fight with the overhead bin was too good to pass up.Unfortunately, after several flights of dedicated testing, I can confidently say this: if you enjoy the sensation of being in a very mild, travel-sized guillotine, this is the product for you.The “Support” DilemmaThe concept is clever. You wrap it around your neck, lean into the hidden support, and drift off into blissful, ergonomic slumber. The reality? The only way this thing provides any meaningful support is if you cinch it so tightly that you start questioning your blood flow situation. At optimal “support” level, I found myself teetering between “mildly uncomfortable” and “Is this what a giraffe feels like in a turtleneck?”If you loosen it even slightly, it becomes a $60 piece of fabric wrapped around your neck for no reason at all. And if you tighten it enough to actually hold your head up, congratulations! You now have a built-in pulse-checking device because your body will let you know very quickly when your carotid artery has had enough.In-Flight PerformanceMy hope was to finally achieve that elusive, graceful plane nap. Instead, I spent most of my flight adjusting, readjusting, and questioning my life choices as my seat neighbor side-eyed my increasingly desperate attempts to make it work. The “lean and sleep” motion they advertise? More like “lean, start losing feeling in your jaw, panic, readjust, repeat.”The VerdictFor those with an iron will, a tolerance for slight oxygen deprivation, and perhaps a slimmer neck than mine, this might work. For the rest of us? Save your money and go back to the classic awkward head-tilt-against-the-window method or invest in a real neck pillow. Or better yet, just accept that air travel is inherently uncomfortable and move on.Final Rating: 2/5 Stars – Points for innovation, deducted for it being a personal tourniquet for the worst possible location

  6. Eva Atienza

  7. Faye Fraser

Tried this out for the first time for a nine hour flight last week – it’s a neck pillow. So it’s never going to be anywhere like a normal sleep, unlike the ads like to make you believe. But for a neck pillow it’s definitely the least bad I have ever tried. I like the way it sits like a scarf, it’s light and easier to attach to a backpack then a traditional neck pillow, and it does provide lots more support than a normal neck pillow. Before the trip, I tried it on just for watching TV at home and actually thought it was so comfy I kept it on for a while to doze a little. It looks a bit more stylish than a neck pillow too. I recommend it, though I think it’s still very expensive for what is essentially a scarf and a piece of plastic.

  8. Marisol

Sujeta el peso de tu cabeza muy bien y es súper práctica de llevar. La recomiendo ampliamente.

  9. Myaplin

Finally…a neck support that’s comfortable & not bulky for travel.

  10. karen roa

Sostiene muy bien la cabeza durante viajes largos para dormir muy cómodamente. Súper recomendable. Incluso, perdí el primero que compré e inmediatamente compré otro.
